Pixel Pilgrim is a gamified step tracker that turns your real-life steps into a virtual pilgrimage along the Camino de Santiago. It is designed to be local-first: your data belongs on your device and stays there.
What data the app uses
Step counts (health data). With your explicit permission, the app reads your daily step totals from Apple Health (iOS) or Health Connect (Android). This data is used solely to move your pilgrim along the route and to compute your in-app statistics (kilometres, streaks, badges).
- Step data is processed entirely on your device.
- It is never uploaded, transmitted, shared, or sold — the app has no server and no user accounts.
- The app only reads steps; it never writes to your health data.
- You can revoke access at any time in your system health settings; the app then falls back to its built-in step simulator.
Location. The current version of the app does not request or use your location, and makes no network requests at all during normal use. (A future optional live-weather feature may ask for approximate location; if added, this policy will be updated first and the feature will be opt-in.)
Progress data. Your journey (kilometres, stages, stamps, badges, customization, settings) is stored locally on your device. Deleting the app — or using “Start over” in Settings — erases it.
Purchases. The one-time “Full Camino” unlock is processed by Apple’s App Store or Google Play. The app never sees your payment details. Purchase status is stored locally and can be restored through the store.
Notifications. Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device. Nothing is sent from a server, and each category can be switched off in Settings.
What the app does NOT do
- No analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs.
- No user accounts, no cloud sync, no server.
- No sharing or selling of any personal data, ever.
- No data collection from children or anyone else.
Sharing features
Postcards, wallpapers, and your Compostela certificate are generated on your device. They leave your device only when you explicitly share or save them via your system share sheet.
Changes to this policy
If a future version adds features that change how data is handled (for example the optional friends map), this policy will be updated and the app will ask for consent before any new data use.
